About the Toodyay Race Club

and the TABTOUCH TOODYAY PICNIC RACE DAY

The Toodyay Race Club was founded in 1865 as a leading racecourse in the Avon Valley. Now their premier annual event, the TABtouch Toodyay Picnic Race Day, is Western Australia’s favourite picnic race day.

Over the last 160 years, the Toodyay Race Club has provided top quality racing and a meeting point for the community within the Avon Valley district.

The Toodyay racecourse is situated within the rolling hills in the beautiful Avon Valley. With picturesque views of the Western Australian countryside, the Toodyay Racecourse is undoubtedly one of the area’s most unique landmarks, all within an hour’s drive of the Perth metropolitan area.

The TABtouch Toodyay Picnic Race Day unites members of the community whilst also attracting visitors from the Perth Metropolitan area. The race day is an important annual event for local community groups showcasing their businesses to a large and diverse audience.

We see this event as an opportunity to showcase Toodyay to the wider Perth community to encourage them to see Toodyay as a liveable and vibrant town, in addition to its solid reputation as a tourist destination.

RACING

IN THE WHEATBELT

Western Australia has one of the biggest country racing precincts in the world with over 35 thoroughbred race clubs spread across the state. The racing industry is responsible for generating $821 million in economic contribution to the Western Australian economy.

The Toodyay Race Club is located within the Wheatbelt region of Western Australia, the racing, pacing and chasing codes play a vital role, generating $50.6 million annually for the local economy, supporting 132 full-time jobs and engaging more than 1400 industry participants and volunteers. Across the three codes in the region, we welcome more than 11,300 attendees each year, contributing to tourism and regional economic growth.

More broadly, the region account for nearly half of WA racing’s $1.3 billion economic contribution annually, with the industry supporting nearly 25,000 people statewide.

Major racing events generate significant stimulus for the businesses in the local economy, with every dollar spent on-course by racing customers, a further $0.84 is spent off-course on items such as retail, fashion, food and accommodation.
